Thursday, 25 October 2007
Today Toluna plc (LSE: TOL) announces it has launched the world’s first Web 2.0 online panel community (www.toluna.com). For the first time panellists are able to conduct their own research using polls, opinion reviews and debates.
The new website enables members to create, share and report on the results of polls and opinion debates across literally any topic. Every poll or debate created by users is open to the 400,000 (UK) strong community to answer and each member can see a demographic report of the results.
The polls can also be posted on users own websites or blogs .10 days after the poll widgets were launched over 3,000 blogs and websites are using them , giving Toluna and its clients reach into a vast pool of potential panellists. Recent hot polls and debates include how efficient the NHS is, smoking in public, use of national ID cards and whether fast food should be banned. Responses to some polls are reaching over ten thousand in just a few days.
The move is the latest development in Toluna’s strategy to improve the responsiveness and quality of online data collection by improving the panellists’ online experience. Toluna is also able to build a 360 degree profile of each panellist throughout their engagement with the panel community. By creating greater panellist interaction through opinion expression, voting as well as building such deep profiles, Toluna is providing its clients with more responsive and reliable data.
‘For 7 years, Toluna has been managing panellist relations though opinion based communities In this time we have learnt that the relationship should not be based on me giving you cash for a survey. By enabling our community members to express, collect and share opinions, we are showing them the value of research in a more participative way. This is in line with our stated strategy of improving the panellist’s online experience and creating one of the UK’s largest communities for people who want to express and share polls and opinions. We will launch these new features across our global panel community network’.Frederic-Charles Petit, CEO, Toluna plc
With the in-house ‘Web Communities Lab‘ development team behind its new site, Toluna is clearly determined to highlight that the days of a one way relationship, with the panellist passively receiving a survey invite, are over.
Toluna will be presenting and demonstrating www.toluna.com at this years Insight (London 20th and 21st November), SEMO (Paris 7th – 8th November), and Web 2.0 and Social Media for Research & Insight (London 29th – 30th October) conferences.
