Stephen Fry voted No. 1 choice for speaker’s job
25 May 2009: Stephen Fry has been voted the number one celebrity choice to replace Michael Martin as speaker in the House of Commons.
Online research panel provider Toluna surveyed 2000 people in the last 24 hours to find out who people thought would be the best person to bring back order to parliament following the expenses debacle. Jeremy Clarkson, known for his no nonsense style, was a close second with Jeremy Paxman and ‘Queen of Mean’ Anne Robinson third and fourth respectively.
Comics John Cleese, Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross and Jimmy Carr also made it into the top ten list, suggesting the British public would like to add a bit more humour to Prime Minister’s question time.
