Toluna Quicksurvey finds 41% of Brits blame the government for the tube strike

11th June 2009: Online research panel provider Toluna spoke to 2000 UK residents in the last 24 hours to find out how the British public feel about the tube strike.  Out of 2000 respondents questioned, 51% feel that the tube strike is an unfair and inappropriate action for the RMT to take. Only 25% support the action – perhaps unsurprisingly given the chaos of the transport system in the last two days!

Respondents were very clear about where they placed the blame: 41% put responsibility for the strike clearly on the government’s shoulders. Only 25% blamed the RMT and 19% the tube workers. Boris Johnson had a lucky escape with just 8% and Bob Crowe with a surprisingly low 7%.

Most commuters braved the mayhem, with just 15% of Londoners working from home during the strike’s first day. However businesses may have felt a knock-on effect with 26% of home workers admitting they achieved less work than they usually would in the office.
