The group is an independent established provider of online research sample and survey technology solutions to market research agencies, media agencies and corporates. In 2009, Toluna welcomed Greenfield Online and Ciao Surveys into the group – complementing its traditional strengths in Europe and increasing its online sample and delivery capacity in the US, Canada and Asia Pacific.

Toluna is headquartered in Paris and has offices in London, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Timisoara, Wilton (Toluna US Headquarters), New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Seattle, Andover, Dallas, Haifa, Sydney, Gurgaon and Tokyo. Toluna plc is incorporated in England and Wales.

Toluna has developed a unique online community approach to the management of its panels. Through the use of web 2.0-based technology it has created the world’s first social voting community site toluna.com, focusing on maximising panellist engagement to offer increased survey responsiveness and data reliability to its clients.

Companies use Toluna’s global panel of 3.7 million active consumers and b2b professionals, to conduct market research surveys. A cross-section of the panel can be used or specific sub-groups can be targeted. These sub-groups are consumers and professionnals categorised by certain characteristics, interests or statuses in order for the survey to be targeted at a desired respondents to maximise the number of completed questionnaires.

The group also enables organisations to generate valuable customer insight by creating, hosting and managing their own online communities using its software as a service community management solution; PanelPortal.

In addition Toluna’s portfolio of research technology solutions also include QuickSurveys  - an online self-service survey tool, Interactive Voice Recognition, Mobile Surveys and BrandSpector a new approach to measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of online advertising campaigns using Toluna’s online panel.

 The Board

George Kynoch, Non-Executive Chairman (**)

  • George has over 30 years’ experience in industry and was chief executive of G & G Kynoch plc (thepredecessor of Kynoch Group plc, now called Bioquell Plc, the listed designer and manufacturer of healthcare equipment for use in contamination control). He was a Grampian Industrialist of the Year in 1988 and received the Highland Business Award. Mr Kynoch was the Scottish Office Industry and Local Government Minister from 1995 to 1997, while serving as a Member of Parliament for Kincardine and Deeside between 1992 and 1997. He is non executive Chairman of TEP Exchange plc and a non executive director of Talent Group plc, both of which are listed on AIM. He is also non executive Chairman of OCZ Technology Group Inc., a California based company, which until recently was listed on AIM.

Frederic-Charles Petit, Founder and Chief Executive

  • Frederic-Charles Petit is the founder and Chief Executive of Toluna plc. He holds a Masters degree in comparative jurisprudence from New York University and a diploma in advanced studies in international economic law from the Sorbonne in Paris (D. E. A.). He practiced as a French lawyer in the corporate department of Allen & Overy’s Paris office, before establishing the group in May 2000.

Richard Bernstein, Non-Executive Director

  • Richard has been a Non-Executive Director of Cjudge and Cjudge SAS since 2000. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989. Between 1994 and 1996 he ran his own specialist research house, Amber Analysis, which provided a risk management service for UK institutions managing over £100 billion. From August 1996 until June 1999 he was an equities analyst at Schroder Securities Limited. He is the Chief Executive of and a major shareholder in Eurovestech plc, which he founded in January 2000.

Perry Crosthwaite, Non-Executive Director (**)

  • Perry joined Fenn and Crosthwaite in 1972. In 1975 the firm merged with George Henderson to form Henderson Crosthwaite, of which he became a partner in 1979. In 1986, he was a Founding Director of Henderson Crosthwaite Institutional Brokers Limited, serving on its board until it was acquired by Investec in 1998. Subsequently he became Executive Chairman of Investec Investment Banking and Securities Limited and a Director of Investec Bank (U.K.) Limited, positions which he held until his retirement in 2004. He is currently Chairman of Jupiter Green Investment Trust and a Non-Executive Director of Melrose plc.

Simon Barrell, Non-Executive Director (*)

  • Simon Barrell FCA, aged 48, qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Young in 1983. He then joined an accountancy practice in Nairobi, Kenya as a Senior Manager. On his return to the UK in 1987, he joined Binder Hamlyn. In 1994 he was appointed Finance Director of Napier Brown & Company Limited and Finance Director of Napier Brown Foods Plc which was admitted to trading on AIM in December 2003. In August 2005 Napier Brown Foods Plc was sold to The Real Good Food Company plc and Simon became a self employed Consultant. He joined ToLuna plc in June 2005 as a Non Executive Director.

Frederic de Mevius, Non Executive Director

  • Frederic de Mevius founded Verlinvest in 1995 and remains its Managing Director, holding Non-Executive Directorships with all Verlinvest’s investments. He was a member of the Board of Interbrew (now AB –Inbev) from 1991 to 2004 and of the Board of Spadel (Belgium) from 1993 to 2000. He was an Investment Banker at Lehman Brothers from 1985 to 1993 and S.G. Warburg from 1981 to 1985. He holds a BA in Finance and Economics from Louvain-la-Neuve and is Chairman or Non-Executive Director of a number of charitable or not-for-profit organisations in Belgium.
